Track & Field tunes up for the CAC meet at Maryland-Eastern Shore

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Wesley College men's and women's track & field teams took part in the two-day Eastern Shore Invite, hosted by the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore.

The men took third at the meet, collecting 112 points. The women finished in fourth place, picking up 86 points at the meet. Salisbury won the men's and women's meets.

Jourdyn Beverly paced the women's effort in the field. Beverly took home the gold in the weight throw. In her final throw of the event, she heaved the weight 14.86 meters (48-9). Beverly was third in the shot put with a mark of 11.56 meters (37-11.75).

Lekeshia Brown-Myrick also picked up a pair of top fives in the jumps. Brown-Myrick earned second in the triple jump (11.06m, 36-3.5) and fifth in the long jump (5.29m, 17-4.25). Teyri Reed placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.40 meters (34-1.5).

On the track, three Wolverine women made it to the 60-meter dash finals. Maysha Foster collected second place (7.90), Evelina Sloboh finished fifth (7.97) and Angel Hall placed seventh (8.08). Hall followed up with a sixth-place finish in the 200 (26.73). Hall and Foster teamed with Briana Artis and Briyanna Woods to finish third in the 4x200-meter relay (1:50.98).

Ashley Morris and Shaniel Thomas qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles. Morris placed fourth with a time of 9.18 seconds while Thomas crossed the line in sixth, clocking in at 9.92 seconds. Thomas, Brown-Myrick, Tyler Reid and Kyra Wesby notched fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (4:23.19).

Four Wesley men collected first places at the meet. Christian Saulsbury was first in the 60 meters, finishing in 6.95 seconds. Thomas Kalieta Jr. placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.46 seconds. O'Ryan Turner won a jump-off in the high jump with Salisbury's Matthew Adedeji to take home first. Turner cleared 1.91 meters (6-3.25) to win the event. John Heriot won the long jump with a leap of 6.98 meters (22-10.75).

Javonte Freeman collected third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.69) and TySean Cousar placed fourth in the 400-meter run (50.97). Anthony Anastasi (4:44.44) and Justin Cowgill (10.36) tallied seventh-place finishes in the mile run and 60-meter hurdles respectively.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Heriot, Jyree Smiley, Ian Thorne and Will Johnson registered third with a time of 1:34.03. The 4x400-meter relay team of Thorne, Jordan Dillard, Ja'mier Bailey and Johnny Crenshaw recorded a fourth-place finish, crossing the line in 3:32.40.

In the jumps, Tre Johnson collected second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.12 meters (46-4). Daquay Harris-Winbush placed third in the long jump (6.92m, 22-8.5).

Antwan Ellerbe and Camal Brown placed 2-3 in the shot put. Ellerbe threw the shot 13.25 meters (43-5.75) while Brown secured a mark of 12.95 meters (42-6).

The Wolverines will be back on the track for the two-day Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. The conference meet starts on Friday, Feb. 16 and is hosted by Christopher Newport University.
