GENEVA, Ohio – Wesley College sophomore Thomas Kalieta Jr. and freshman Kai Cole advanced to Saturday's final at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Cole edged out Ryan Miller of St. John's (Minn.) to win the 100-meter dash preliminaries. Cole crossed the line in 10.452 seconds, beating Miller in .004 seconds to set a new SPIRE Institute record. Cole's time bested the previous stadium record of 10.47 seconds set by Jamal Watkins of Birmingham-Southern.
Kalieta finished in eighth place in the 400-meter dash preliminaries to qualify for the final. Kalieta clocked in at 48.22 seconds.
Junior Evelina Sloboh placed 10th in the 100-meter dash preliminaries in 12.00 seconds, narrowly missing the final qualification spot to the finals by .03 seconds.
Sophomore John Heriot competed in the 200-meter dash and finished in 20th place with a time of 22.59.
Kalieta's 400-meter dash final will start at approximately 1:20 p.m. while Cole will run in the 100-meter dash final at around 1:40 p.m.
The top eight finishers in each event finals earn All-American honors.
