The Wesley College Women's Softball continued their winning in Myrtle Beach, defeating Cazenovia College and Rivier University on Tuesday Morning. The Wolverines record improves to 6-1 on the season as they head into the second half of their spring break tournament.
The first game of the day pitted the Wolverines against the Cazenovia Wildcats. Pitcher, Lindsay Siok, allowed one hit in the top of the first inning before striking out two batters and forcing a pop-up to Morgan Seymour. This quick half inning provided momentum to the Wolverines. The team saw nine runners cross home in just the first inning. The Wolverines created a lead that was insurmountable for the Wildcats but the team continued with two runs in the second and three runs in the third inning. The game ended in the fifth inning with the Wolverines leading 14-3.
Morgan Seymour kept her bat alive with three hits in three at bats as well as adding another stolen base to her tournament total. Other stand outs at the plate were Olivia DeGraba, Sarah Saunders and Nina Marcano, each with two hits and two runs scored in the game.
Siok took the win, pitching five innings, allowing only four hits and no earned runs while striking out seven of the Wildcats.
The Wolverines rallied in game two when the team faced the Rivier University Raiders. No runs were scored in the first inning but the Wolverines found themselves behind after the Raiders scored two runs in the top of the second. Marcano continued her hitting streak with a single and Devin Mackay tripled to bring Marcano home. A bunt by Steph Caracozza brought Mackay home and the game was tied.
Marcano came up to bat in the third inning. She started the teams five run rally with a double that brought Seymour across the plate. Caracozza then hit a double to bring Marcano home.
The Raiders kept the Wolverines scoreless in the fourth and fought back with a four run fifth inning before the Wolverines tallied another five runs in the bottom of the fifth and added two more in the sixth to end the game. Samantha Mahoski, Breanna Hartman and Marcano each had a game high three hits to help the team defeat Rivier 14-6.
Lily Engel picked up her third win of the season, allowing 11 hits in five innings and four earned runs.
