DOVER, Del – The Wesley College Softball team dropped a pair of games (10-0, 6-0) to the NFCA top ranked Division III team in America, Salisbury University. The Seagulls improve to 27-1, 7-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference, while the Wolverines fall to 13-13, 1-7 in conference play.
Wesley was up against a pitching force, Rachel Johnson. Johnson entered the game with a .35 ERA and 151 strikeouts in the season. Johnson continued her impressive record, keeping the Wolverines scoreless, which dropped her ERA to .33, and adding another 11 strikeouts to her total.
Game one ended after five innings. Johnson earned the win and Lily Engel took the loss, allowing 10 runs with four of them earned.
Game two was better for Wesley. Wolverine freshman, Whitney Dibb, was put in the DP spot and chose to make a showing of how good her bat is. She had two hits in her two at bats. Brook Creighton also had a good showing, taking a pitch to the knee to take first base and nabbing a single in the bottom of the seventh to give Wesley a chance.
Lindsay Siok took the loss, pitching all seven innings, striking out four batters and allowing six runs, three earned. The Wolverines travel to Newport News, VA on Saturday, April 12 to face CAC powerhouse for a 1:00 PM start.
