Washington, D.C. – The Wesley College softball team swept the Gallaudet University Bison in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader. The win in game one, 7-0, took the Wolverines to an eight game winning streak, the best ever in program history. The Wolverines improve to 14-1 on the season while the Bison fall to 2-12.
Steph Caracozza, a perfect 3-3 in game one, doubled to center field to start off the game for the Wolverines. Morgan Seymour then forced an error from the Bison and Caracozza sprinted all the way home to put the Wolverines on top in inning one. Seymour garnered another two RBI's in the third inning, doubling to right center and bringing Kayla Fromal and Caracozza home. Nina Marcano would slam a double to bring Seymour across the plate. The Wolverines would score three more runs in the last four innings to win 7-0. Lindsay Siok took the win in the opener, allowing just one hit in her five innings on the mound, and Destiny Davis closed out the game, striking out four batters in just two innings.
The Wolverines started game two with a rally on two out that saw a Tiarra Maddox double score both Seymour and Marcano. The Wolverines took the game out of reach of the Bison in the top of the seventh when a Kayla Fromal single scored both Casey Beall and Siok. Sarah Saunders then singled to right field to allow Fromal to round out the scoring at eight. Bison attempted to catch up in the final moments of the game but a double play (Davis-Fromal-Mahoski), took away any hope of recovery and the Wolverines won 8-0. Lily Engel takes her eighth win from the circle, shutting out the Gallaudet offense while allowing five hits but striking out three.
The Wolverines face the Might Macs of Immaculata University at Reynolds Dupont Softball Field on Tuesday, March 24th with game one beginning at 3:00 PM.
