DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's softball team dropped a pair of Capital Athletic Conference games to 15th-ranked Christopher Newport on Wednesday afternoon at DuPont Softball Field. The Wolverines, who dropped the opener, 15-1, and the nightcap, 10-0, now stand at 18-11 overall and 1-9 in the CAC while the Captains improve to 21-6 on the year and 10-0 in league play.
Brook Creighton had two of Wesley's three hits in game one, including a triple in the second inning. Creighton scored the Wolverines lone run of the game on a wild pitch with Kayla Fromal at the plate. Tiarra Maddox also singled in the opener.
Christopher Newport scored all of their runs in the first four innings before Sarah Saunders got the final four outs of the game from the circle.
Lily Engel allowed just four earned runs through 2.2 innings of work while starting game two from the circle before Lindsay Siok allowed just three hits over the final 2.1 innings with three strikeouts in relief.
The Captains tallied three runs in the first before going scoreless in the second. Christopher Newport scored seven runs in the third, six of which were unearned.
The Wolverines host CAC rivals Southern Virginia and Frostburg State in doubleheaders on back-to-back days, starting with the Knights on Friday, April 10 at 3 pm. The following afternoon, Wesley hosts the Bobcats in a 1 o'clock twinbill.
