DOVER, Del – The Wesley College softball team powered through a doubleheader against their Division II opponent, Lincoln University on Saturday.
The Wolverines scored 19 runs in both contests. Each of the games ended in the fifth inning due to the run rule.
In the first game, the Wolverines batted around in the first and second innings in the 19-3 win over the Lions.
Senior catcher Nina Marcano notched four hits while senior first baseman Devin Mackay and junior pitcher/designated player Lauren Hoffman each tallied three hits. Hoffman went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, drove in five runs and scored three times for the Wolverines. Mercano knocked in three runs and Mackay collected two runs batted in.
Sophomore infielder Samantha Burns crossed the plate three times while going 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Fellow sophomore Ashley Royer crushed a solo dinger to lead off the second inning and plated three runs in the game.
Senior Lindsay Siok picked up the win in Game 1. Siok went three innings, striking out seven while only allowing one earned run.
The Wolverines continued the hot bats en route to the 19-2 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
Six Wolverines collected multi-hit performance in Game 2. Every Wolverine starter scored at least once while the 1-4 hitters for the Wolverines went a combined 13-of-17 with 13 RBI and eight runs scored.
Burns came home five times while recording four hits and three runs batted in. Royer went 4-for-4 at the dish with five RBI's while Mercano and Hoffman each drove home four runs.
Senior Lily Engel picked up two strikeouts and only allowed one hit to earn her first win of the season.
The Wolverines (2-0) will return to action tomorrow when they travel to the Philadelphia suburbs to take on the Swathmore Garnet. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
