ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. –Brionna Johnson recorded her second-straight double-double to open her career but it was not enough as the Wesley College women's basketball team fell to Methodist University, 67-56 in the inaugural Jean Edge Classic on Sunday afternoon. The Wolverines fall to 0-2 while the Monarchs move to 1-1.
A freshman from Smyrna, Del., Johnson tallied 27 points on 7-of-17 shooting while going 12-of-13 from the line. Johnson also recorded 11 rebounds as she averaged 24.5 points and 16.5 rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Roniece Williams also provided some help with nine points, eight steals, four rebounds and three assists, while Monique Miller recorded another nine points but it was not enough to overcome the team's 31% shooting performance.
Three Monarchs finished in double figures, led by Maya Banks' 21 points.
Wesley returns to action when it travels to take on Division I Morgan State on Wednesday, November 20 at 5:30 pm.
