DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's women's basketball team pulled out a 58-44 victory over Capital Athletic Conference rival Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday night at Wentworth Gymnasium. The Wolverines now stand at 5-19 and 2-13 in the CAC while the Nittany Lions fall to 6-18 and 1-14 in league play.
Brionna Johnson scored a season-high 28 points while pulling down 14 rebounds and stealing a season-high eight balls. Roniece Williams added 14 points while Tiara White chipped in with eight points and seven boards. Kiara Johnson also distributed the ball well with six assists.
The teams were neck-and-neck throughout the first half with Wesley at one point holding a 22-12 lead after going on a 9-2 run midway through the period. The Nittany Lions battled back, however, and trailed by a mere 28-24 margin at the break.
Penn State scored the first four points of the second half to tie the score but a triple by Williams sparked a 7-0 run, giving the Wolverines 35-28 advantage with15:38 left to play. The Nittany Lions would get no closer than five points the remainder of the game as Wesley held Penn State to just 34% shooting and forced 35 turnovers.
St. Mary's visits Dover in the regular season finale at 1 pm on Saturday, February 22.
