DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College Women's Basketball team led by as much as eight points in the first half but eventually fell to St. Mary College in a Saturday afternoon showdown. Winning 62-51, the Seahawks advance to 4-9, 4-4 in the CAC, while the Wolverines fall to 7-7, 3-5 in conference action.
The Wolverines led for the first 11 minutes of the game, beginning with a three-pointer from Roniece Williams. The Seahawks tied up the score at 21 with just over eight minutes left in the first half. A Williams jump-shot brought the lead back to Wesley but back to back three's put St. Mary's back in the lead as the half ended. Wesley fought to tie the game at 44 with over eleven minutes left in the game but they would not be able to regain the lead.
Brionna Johnson and Tiara White each notched a double-double in the game, Johnson putting up 14 points and bringing in 19 rebounds and White brought in ten of each. Other stand outs for the Wolverines were Alexus Stroud, with 14 points, and Williams, with eight points, three steals, six assists, and eleven rebounds.
The Wolverines return to the court on Wednesday, January 21 at 5:30 PM when they face off against the Seagulls of Salisbury University.
