DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College women's basketball team scored a 59-55 win over the St. Mary's Seahawks in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action on Saturday at Wentworth Gymnasium.

Wesley went into the locker room trailing St. Mary's by three after Kerri Kline drew a foul as time expired on the second quarter and drained all three free throws.

Wesley erased that halftime deficit in the third quarter when they started the second half on a 17-6 run to overtake St. Mary's.

Wesley got out to their largest lead of the game when Stacey O'Neale got an offensive rebound following a miss and netted the putback to make it a 57-47 game with 3:19 left in the game. St. Mary's started to mount a comeback in the waning moments of the game, cutting the Wesley lead to two with just under a minute left in regulation. But, Wesley's defense held tight and stymied the attempted comeback.

Wesley had their three-point shot going in the win, going 7-of-13 (53.8%) in three-pointers. Wesley also outrebounded St. Mary's 47-38.

Shelby Johnson led the Wolverines with her third straight double-double with 12 points and a career-high 22 rebounds. Her 22 rebounds are most in a game for the Wolverines since Brionna Johnson pulled down 22 boards against North Carolina Wesleyan on Nov. 16, 2013. Johnson also added four steals in the win.

Tiyanna Gibbs paced the scoring for Wesley, picking up 15 points. She was a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the three-point line. She also hauled in three rebounds and dished out three assists.

Monshea Newsome-Murray and Stacey O'Neale collected 14 and 11 points respectively. Newsome-Murray dished out a game-high eight assists while O'Neale was 3-of-6 from three-point range.

Janey Mathisen led St. Mary's with 15 points.

The Wolverines are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 7 when they travel to Arlington, Va. where they will face-off with the No. 21 ranked Marymount Saints. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
