Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Wesley Women's Basketball team hit the road to Medgar Evers for a non-conference match up and pulled off a 58-56 win. Lekeshia Brown-Myrick led the Wolverines putting up 15 points, going 7-for-16 from the field and 1-for-1 three pointers. Another big scorer was Angelique Gathers putting up 14 points, going 4-for-11 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. SherVonia Tolson added 11 points to the team win.
Medgar Evers took the lead early but a layup by Brown-MyricK tied the game 4-4. From there, the Wolverines were able to take over scoring for the first. The second quarter both teams traded points but a 3-pointer by Gathers gave Wesley a one-point lead, 34-33, going into the half.
Wesley's lead continued through the third, but Medgar Evers took over putting up a score of 45-41 going into the fourth. Wesley trailed the Cougars by one and a three-pointer by Jackson gave them the lead 47-45. Wesley was able to hold on that lead to take the win 58-56.
Wesley shot 35.9% from the field, 33.3 percent from behind the arc and 50 percent from the free throw line.
The Wolverines will hang tight in Brooklyn as they take on Medgar Evers again tomorrow, December 9th at 6pm.
