Dover, Del. – The Wolverines couldn't find much offensive rhythm Wednesday night at home versus the Cabrini's Cavaliers. With Wesley's 87-49 loss tonight, they only have one more chance to secure a conference win this season against Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday, Feb. 22nd.
Wesley didn't display much offensive power in the first quarter as Cabrini already led the Wolverines 23-7 by the end. This let Cabrini control the pace for the rest of the game in which the Women's Basketball team couldn't keep up with.
As halftime approached, Wesley improved their offensive rhythm by putting up a 15 spot on the quarter, drawing in on Cabrini, 48-22. The Cavalier's ability to outscore the Wolverines in each of the first two quarters made the potential comeback a daunting task to carry out.
By the time the third quarter came to the halfway mark at five minutes, Cabrini had already accumulated a lead of 64-28, dimming Wesley's chances of a comeback and giving the team a cushion in case the Wolverines' offense began to spark. Women's Basketball would only score one more third quarter point as the Cavaliers piled on the lead 79-29 at the end.
Wesley's offense put up 20 points in the fourth quarter, but Cabrini's lead was already too many points to come back from, with the final score being 87-49. Finishing strong, the team went on an unanswered 10-point streak in the final minutes of the game.
Angelique Gathers tried to get the offense going with her 12 points, six coming from a couple of long three-pointers. She also grabbed four rebounds and dished out an assist.
Wesley's Women's team will play their final regular season game at Gwynedd Mercy at 1 p.m. This will be their final opportunity to find a rare conference win as Wesley couldn't find a playoff berth this season.
