Gwynedd Valley, PA – Wesley finishes the season with a loss to Gwynedd Mercy 85-60 on Saturday. The Women's Basketball team tried desperately to find a conference win this season but finished empty-handed with their conference record at 0-12.
Gwynedd Mercy controlled the pace of the first quarter, leading off the game with 10 unanswered points until Jourdyn Beverly tossed up a layup to try and get Wesley's offense going. Wesley came within just five points several times, but Gwynedd Mercy ended up outscoring the Wolverines 21-13 by the end of the quarter.
Two minutes into the second quarter, Angelique Gathers posted a layup to get Wesley back within five points of the Griffins at 24-19. Gwynedd Mercy's defense stopped Wesley's scoring opportunities and distanced themselves with a 42-26 lead heading into halftime.
After the half, the Griffins scored six straight points in the first three minutes of the 3rd to pile on the deficit 49-26. Wesley would go on to score 12 more points in the quarter opposed to the Griffins' 13, making the score a lopsided 62-38.
Despite Wesley's offense showing some fire during the 4th quarter, Gwynedd Mercy's lead had already become too much to come back from. Wesley scored 22 points in the quarter as Gwynedd Mercy posted a 23 spot. Gathers' last second layup would make the score 85-60.
Katelyn Watson tallied 10 points and secured nine rebounds, just one shy of a double-double. She blocked a Griffin scoring attempt and stole the ball once to help her team find some rhythm.
