Women's Lacrosse celebrates seniors with 15-14 win over Southern Virginia

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College women's lacrosse team honored their seniors with a 15-14 win over the Southern Virginia Knights to earn their first Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) win of the season.

Fallon Fore got the scoring started early for the Wolverines as she would slip one past the Knights goalie less than a minute into the game off an assist from Paige Brehm.

The first half was a pinball game of back-and-forth scoring. The Wolverines went into the second half up 7-5 on the Knights. Southern Virginia would tie the game at seven in the early moments of the second half, but Wesley would go up 12-7 with a 5-0 scoring run in six minutes of game action

Southern Virginia would cut the lead with a 6-2 run in the waning moments of the game to pull within one with just under five minutes to go in the game. After Southern Virginia would draw a penalty, Fore would capitalize on a free-position attempt with 2:56 left in regulation to give Wesley an important insurance goal and put the Wolverines up 15-13. Southern Virginia would net a goal in the final two minutes of the game, but Wesley's defense would hold strong and seal the CAC win.

Paige Brehm recorded a hat trick with three helpers. Brehm also added seven draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Fallon Fore put away four goals, corralled four draws and caused four turnovers.

Maddison Cypher and Bailey Grey both registered two goals in the win. Cypher also dished out a game-high five assists to match her season best.

On defense, Taylor Speicher and Rodneisha Scott each caused a pair of Knight turnovers.

In net, Shelby Schirmer rejected 10 shots and scooped up four ground balls to earn her sixth victory of the season.

The Wolverines take a break from conference play on Monday when they travel north to square off with the Immaculata Mighty Macs. The road game is set for 7 p.m.
