IMMACULATA, Pa. - On Saturday, Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse returned to the field as the Wolverines fell 13-7 on the road against Immaculata.
Wesley put up a fight in the first half after Immaculata quickly got on the board to open the game. Margaret Johnson responded less than a minute later to tie the game 1-1. The conference foes would continue to trade goals, battling back and forth until Cat Bennett found the net twice for the Wolverines to take the lead 3-2. Kassie Dieter rounded out the scoring for the Wolverines to keep their lead going into halftime 4-3.
The Wolverine defense excelled in the first half lead by goalie Katie Porter who was a brick wall facing free position shots, shutting down the Mighty Macs 0-6. The unit held Immaculata's attack off nearly every possession until the last seconds of the shot clock before clearing it out off of interceptions and tips from first year players Madison Cook and Ally Sweeney.
Despite a valiant effort in the first half, the Wolverines lost their footing in the second and gave Immaculata 9 free position shots, of which they netted 6, that Wesley could not recover from.
The Wolverines will return home March 27th for their first game on Drass field in over a year where they will recognize their four seniors as they face Gwynedd-Mercy. Draw is set for 1pm.
