Wesley women earn second at Delaware Open

NEWARK, Del. – The Wesley College women's track & field team had a great showing at the Delaware Open, hosted by the University of Delaware.

Wesley placed second behind host Delaware, picking up 166 team points. Three women won their events while Wesley collected 22 top-5 finishes at the meet.

Evelina Sloboh won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.53 seconds. Briyanna Woods finished first in the 400-meter dash, turning in a time of 59.14 seconds. Shaniel Thomas won the 100-meter hurdle with a time of 17.32 seconds.

Rakiya Taylor (12.55), Maysha Foster (12.66) and Briana Artis (13.12) placed second, third and fourth in the 100 meters. Emani McNeil (27.74), Tyler Reid (28.19) and Quadira Minus (28.30) were third, fourth and fifth in the 200-meter dash. Minus placed second in the 400-meter dash (1:02.82) while Reid was in fourth with a time of 1:04.53.

Lekeshia Brown-Myrick earned second place in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.01) and the triple jump (10.56m, 34-7.75). Victoria Robinson finished in second place in the 100-meter hurdles (17.44) and third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:16.36). Thomas placed fourth in the 400 hurdles, clocking in a 1:20.60.

Jourdyn Beverly recorded three top-5 finishes. Beverly placed second in the shot and hammer throw. She recorded a mark of 11.58 meters in the shot and 41.26 meters in the hammer. She placed fourth in the discus with a heave of 30.77 meters.

Taylor placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 4.82 meters (15-9.75). Zekiah Fountain registered a fourth-place finish in the hammer with a mark of 38.59 meters (126-7).

The Wolverines will now prepare for the two-day Capital Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which start on Friday, May 4. The meet is hosted by Salisbury University.
