COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Wesley College men's and women's track & field teams opened their outdoor season on Saturday at the Ursinus Invitational.
The men's side picked up 11 top-5 finishes at the meet. The Wesley men swept the sprints with Kai Cole, John Heriot and Tysean Cousar winning the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes. Cole won the 100 with a time of 10.79 seconds. Heriot crossed the line in 21.88 seconds in the 200 while Cousar finished the 400 in 52.32 seconds. Cole would place second to Heriot in the 200 with a time of 21.96 seconds.
Javonte Freeman picked up a win in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.23 seconds. He also placed eighth in the 200 meters, finishing in 23.11 seconds. Isaiah Bodie placed third in the 100 (11.08). Raul Torres(53.56) and Jordan Dillard (54.12) tallied a third and fifth place finish in the 400 respectively.
Anthony Anastasi paced the distance runners with a fourth-place effort in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:48.80.
In the men's field, Daquay Harris-Winbush collected a third-place leap in the long jump (6.66m,21-10.25) and fourth-place clearance in the high jump (1.73m, 5-8). Estarline Espinal placed 10th in the hammer (25.28m, 82-11).
On the women's side, Evelina Sloboh continued her momentum in the sprints from indoor nationals with a win in the 100-meter dash. She finished the 100 in 12.03 seconds.
Jourdyn Beverly led the women's field events with wins in the discus and shot put. Her winning marks were 10.99 meters (36-0.75) in the shot and 34.04 meters (111-8) in the discus throws. She also placed second in the hammer with a heave of 37.03 meters (121-6).
Also in the field, Lekeshia Brown-Myrick and Teyri Reed performed well in the jumps. Reed placed third in the triple jump (10.39m, 34-1.75) and seventh in the long jump (4.82m, 15-9.75) while Brown-Myrick recorded a fourth-place leap in the long jump (4.93m, 16-2.25) and a sixth-place effort in the triple jump (10.02m, 32-10.5). Zekiah Fountain registered a fifth and seventh place throw in the shot put and hammer throws. Fountain threw the shot 9.87 meters (32-4.75) and the hammer 30.69 meters (100-8.25).
Back on the track, Shaniel Thomas and Victoria Robinson went 5-6 in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 16.53 and 16.63 seconds respectively. Jontae Hankins finished seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.93. Briana Artis placed 10th in the 400 clocking in at 1:05.82.
Tyler Reid rounded out the top-10 placers at the meet with a 10th place performance in the long jump with a mark of 9.53 meters (31-3.25).
Wesley will be back on the track on Saturday, March 30 when they take part in the Navy Spring invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy.
