Women's Track & Field finish in second place at Atlantic East Championships

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - The Wesley College women's track and field team concluded the two-day Atlantic East Conference Championships on a rainy and dreary Sunday with a runner-up finish in the inaugural event. 

Wesley impressed in the sprint events with Briana Artis winning the 200- and 400-meter dashes to earn her first collegiate individual conference championships. Artis finished the 200 in 27.09 seconds and the 400 in the 1:01.22.

Evelina Sloboh won the 100-meter dash in 12.58 seconds. Sloboh also placed second in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 27.11 seconds. Jonate Hankins collected the conference title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:02.72. Hankins also finished third in the 800-meter run (2:34.85) and fourth in the 1,500-meter run (5:25.11).

The 4x100-meter relay team of Artis, Sloboh Maysha Foster,and Rakiya Taylor won the conference championship with a time of 48.75. Taylor also placed third in the 100 (13.09), fourth in the 200 (27.99) and sixth in the long jump (4.59m, 15-00.75).

Jourdyn Beverly won the hammer and shot put events in the throws. Beverly heaved the hammer 42.89 meters (140.08) and the shot 10.73 meters (35-02.50). Beverly finished second in the discus with a mark of 33.00 meters (108-03).

Lekeshia Brown-Myrick recorded a pair of second-place efforts in the long and triple jumps. She registered a jump of 11.22 meters (36-09,75) in the triple jump and 5.11 meters (16-09.25) in the long jump. Brown-Myrick also placed third in the high jump (1.40m, 4-07) and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.29).

Teyri Reed registered a third-place leap in the long jump (4.92m, 16-01.75). Victoria Robinson notched fourth in the triple jump (10.40m, 34-01.50) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.84). Zekiah Fountain placed fifth in the hammer (37.42m, 122-09) and shot put (9.61m, 31-06.50).

Wesley totaled 192 points as a team to finish second. Marywood won the Atlantic East Championship with 277 points.

Wesley will now prepare for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships by competing in the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on Monday, May 13.
