ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Wesley College volleyball team swept Rosemont, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-9) before falling to Ursinus, 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 22) in a tri-match at the Ravens' Alumni Gym on Saturday afternoon. With the split, the Wolverines now stand at 3-3 on the season.
Freshman Arnelle Akakpo recorded a season-high ten kills without an error on 17 swings (.588) to lead Wesley to victory over Rosemont. Sharis Allen added a match-high 13 kills while hitting .688 and Lindsay DiMuzio added nine kills with a .418 hitting percentage.
In the victory, Wesley hit an impressive .436 for the match while holding Rosemont to a -.013 percentage.
Ashley Klein and Beth Schlecker were also impressive quarterbacking the offense as Klein tallied 19 assists and Schlecker was credited with 14. In the back row, Meghan Marshall recorded a match-high 12 digs and Rachel Hausler added ten.
Ursinus and Wesley played even for most of the match but the Bears narrowly escaped in each set. Akakpo once again led the offense, recording a team-high seven kills with just two errors on 24 swings (.208). DiMuzio added five kills and a pair of solo blocks.
Klein once again led the team in assists with 17 while Hausler grabbed a match-high 16 digs.
On September 14, Wesley will play three matches on the campus of Penn St.-Abington, starting with Notre Dame (Md.) at 10 am. The Wolverines will then take on CAC member Penn St.-Harrisburg in a non-conference tilt at 12 pm before facing the host Lions at 3 pm.
