DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's volleyball team won all three of its matches at the Penn State Abington Tournament on Saturday. The Wolverines are now 6-3 on the season and have already equaled their win total from last year.
In a victory over Notre Dame that went five sets, Sharis Allen recorded ten kills with no errors on 23 swings (.435) to lead the Wesley. Lindsay DiMuzio finished one kill short of a double-double with an errorless nine kills and ten digs while Arnelle Akakpo also had 8 kills.
The Wolverines then swept Penn State Harrisburg in straight sets thanks to a well balanced offensive attack led by Akakpo and DiMuzio with eight kills each. Klein had a match-high 32 assists and Marshall had an identical number of digs.
Wesley also got the benefit of 11 service aces led by Pierce with five. Pierce also had 28 digs in the match.
After two grueling matches already in the day, the Wolverines rallied from two sets down to earn the victory over Penn State Abington.
Pierce had another six aces in the match along with a career-high 35 digs as Marshall grabbed 42 digs. The outside duo of Akakpo and Allen also combined for 17 kills.
Up next for Wesley is a tri-match at Lancaster Bible on September 17 where the Wolverines will also take on Baptist Bible (Pa.).
