Marshall Sets Digs Record in Pair of Volleyball Wins

MORRISTOWN, N.J. -  Junior Meghan Marshall set the Wesley College career-record for digs as the Wolverines took a pair of games at the St. Elizabeth Quad-Match over New Jersey City University and John Jay on Friday afternoon.

Wesley took both matches, 3-1, with a 25-20, 25-19, 18-25, 25-13 triumph over the Gothic Knights in the opener before defeating the Bloodhounds, 25-14, 25-19, 14-25, 25-22 later in the day.

Needing just 23 digs to overtake Lilia Brekke's record, Marshall was credited with 13 digs against NJCU before going for 22 more against John Jay.  Marshall now has 946 digs in her career.

A well-balanced offensive attack helped Wesley defeat the Gothic Knights as freshmen Tionne Graves-Brown and Tania Rounds had 13.0 points and 11.5 points, respectively.  Graves-Brown tallied five kills with eight service aces and also had eight digs while Rounds recorded six kills, four aces and three total blocks. Arnelle Akakpo led the squad with eight kills while Beth Schlecker (22) and Codi Ziolkowski (13) assisted on all but two Wesley kills.

Akakpo also had six kills against John Jay to lead the team while Kadijah Doughty had a team-high 8.5 points on five kills and five total blocks. Schlecker had another 17 assists against the Bloodhounds

Wesley returns to action tomorrow afternoon for the Penn State Brandywine Tri-Match.  The Wolverines will take on Bryn Mawr at 3 pm followed by the Nittany Lions at 5 pm.
