Wesley concludes Puerto Rico trip with two wins

SAN JUAN, P.R. – The Wesley College volleyball team returned to the mainland after splitting four matches at the Puerto Rico Clasico in San Juan, Puerto Rico over Labor Day weekend.

The Wolverines dropped their first two matches of the tournament on Saturday.  Their first match was a close five-set contest to the Lasell Lasers (19-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 12-15) before falling in three sets to the Dickinson Red Devils (19-25, 21-25, 18-25).

Jessica Tynes and Lindsay Burg both collected double-doubles in the match against Lasell. Tynes led the Wolverines with 11 kills and added 13 digs. Burg dished out 14 assists and dug out 12 attacks.

Tionne Graves-Brown had seven kills and 13 digs while Caelli Clifford paced the Wolverine defense with 30 digs. Courtney Olson chipped in with 10 assists.

Olivia Addington had a game-high 17 kills for Lasell. 

Clifford led the Wolverines against Dickinson with 16 digs. Tynes and Tania Rounds each tallied four kills while Rounds added three blocks.

Jamie Singer collected a match-high 12 kills for Dickinson.

The Wolverines avenged their two losses on Saturday with two wins on Sunday. The Wolverines took down the Widener Pride in three sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-13) and the Wilkes Colonials in four sets (25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15). 

Graves-Brown had another double-double for the Wolverines against Widener. She recorded 12 kills with 11 digs and three service aces.

Tynes chipped in with six kills while Clifford dug out 13 Widener attacks.

Carly Histing and Nicole Dorman each had eight kills respectively for Widener.

Four Wolverines tallied eight or more kills against Wilkes. Graves-Brown and Codi Ziolkowski each notched double-digit kills. Graves-Brown recorded a game-high 14 kills with 17 digs for her second double-double of the day while Ziolkowski registered 11 kills and three blocks. Olson added nine kills while Tynes collected eight kills, eight digs and two service aces.

Burg also picked up a double-double for the Wolverines against Wilkes. She handed out 22 assists while digging out 10 attacks.

Jamry Mikovich had 10 digs and nine kills for Wilkes.

The Wolverines (2-2) will be back in action on Friday when they begin play in the two-day Catholic University of America Tournament in Washington, D.C. Their first match begins at 2 pm. on Friday against Albright.
