Volleyball splits doubleheader with John Jay

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College volleyball team split a doubleheader on Saturday with the John Jay Bloodhounds.

Wesley took the first match in straight sets, 25-14, 25-22, 25-21 over John Jay.

Mary Getty led the offense with eight kills on 13 attacks. She recorded two service aces, a block solo and a block assist. Regan Healey tallied seven kills with 14 digs and four service aces. Elisa Hackendorn and Nya Lightfoot both notched six kills. Hackendorn added seven digs and two service aces while Lightfoot blocked three attacks and dug out four attacks.

Caelli Clifford collected a game-high 19 digs. Lindsay Burg handed out 17 assists with eight digs. Micah Wright blocked two attacks in the middle of the front line.

Wesley couldn't keep the momentum from the first game and was upended by John Jay in three sets, 29-27, 25-22, 25-15.

Wright notched six blocks while Teaghen Vogelsang registered seven assists and five block assists. Lightfoot put down a team-high nine kills while Getty, Healey and Kaya Ziskay recorded three kills apiece in the loss.

Clifford once again tallied a game-high 22 digs. Hackendorn recorded 13 digs and five kills.

Burg dished out 13 assists along with nine digs, a dig away from a double-double.

Brianna Geraldo had a game-high 17 kills for John Jay.

The Wolverines will begin conference play on Tuesday when they face the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins. The road contest is scheduled for 6 p.m.
