SMYRNA, Del. – Sophomore Dieunise Desir led the Wesley College women's cross country team in the Wolverines season opener at the DSU Hornet Invitational on Saturday morning. Wesley finished fourth of six schools, defeating Coppin State and University of District of Columbia.
A native of New Castle, Del., Desir shaved 20 seconds off her time from last year on the same 5K course, finishing 18th of 58 runners in 21:19.7. Desir was followed closely by freshmen Alyson Davis (21:27.7) out of Smryna, Del., and Mercedes Myrick (22:08.5) who set a personal record in her first collegiate race.
Rounding out the scorers for Wesley was freshman Kenya Reese (23:21.7) and her older sister, sophomore Miata Reese (23:51.5). Also competing for the Wolverines were sophomore Danae Carter (24:53.5) who was making her Wesley debut, as well as Alexus Reese (25:25.2) and Quadira Minus (25:48.2).
Wesley returns to action on Saturday, September 20 at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational held at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa.
